Utopian thinking is a desire to expose the deficiencies of the present and imagine what could be improved. Freya revamps the symbol of the ouroboros as an influencer, fake tanned and well groomed. This image highlights the importance of escaping from the echo chambers that have us stuck in an algorithmic feedback loop; dictating our mindless consumption of media, they feed our brains and separate into ever more divided groups. In order to give our society a much needed face-lift, we must fully clutch, clasp, squeeze and embrace these differences. This girly is giving us the side eye, smug in the knowledge of her power to influence her followers, dazzled by the allure of the free products gifted to her by beauty corporations. In an increasingly digital and chaotic world, the tactility of rug making provides a way to connect to something tangible. Evoking a sense of tenderness and familiarity, it encourages us to foster connections with each other.
